What started as a shared dream over a glass of vodka became Sunset Distilling Company — a testament to friendship, craft, and the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains.
The Beginning
In 2023, four friends — Wendy, Claudia, Jamie, and Robert — came together with a shared passion for artisan spirits and a love for the Appalachian landscape. Each brought unique expertise: leadership, creativity, operations, and the science of distillation.
They found their home on a beautiful farm in Yellow Spring, West Virginia, where the sunsets paint the mountains in shades of amber and gold every evening. It was here that Sunset Distilling Company was born.
The name came naturally. Watching the sun dip behind the Appalachian ridgeline one evening, they realized that the warmth, the color, and the feeling of a perfect sunset was exactly what they wanted to capture in every bottle.
Our Craft
We believe great spirits start with great ingredients. Every grain tells a story of the care and craftsmanship that goes into each bottle we produce.
Our 200-gallon copper still is the heart of our operation. Combined with careful fermentation, precise distillation, and patient aging in new American oak barrels, we craft spirits that honor both tradition and innovation.
Each spirit in our collection represents a different phase of the sunset — from the clean brightness of our vodka to the deep, lingering warmth of our bourbon.
